Medical Emergencies in Schools
Neeraja Kairam, MD
This workshop is intended to discuss procedures for the administration of emergency first aid services in the schools;
proper protocol when to call 911; and describe the school nurse as the primary connection to the medical community.
Mental Health In School: What School Nurses Need to Know
Donna Dalgetty, MD
This workshop is intended to explain the role in addressing mental health and psychological concerns in schools; understand
what causes different types of problems; identify phases of crisis intervention; and ways to manage and support a child in crisis.
School Rules & Regs
Wayne Yankus, MD, FAAP & David Nash, Esq.
This workshop will provide information on new and existing code and statues that affect schools and their administrations.
Implementation and discussion of transgender best practices, discussion of home instruction rules/changes, immunization
issues, and nurse practice in schools. It will also be an annual review of legal forms, special education requests and medical
record guardianship. At a time when administrations are working to reduce staff with cross coverage, we will discuss the code and statues dealing with certified school nurses.
Oral Health in the School Setting
This workshop is intended to describe the impact of poor oral health on school performance; evaluate the oral health status
of school aged children; design activities that promote oral health; and implement oral health strategies to improve the oral health status of school aged children.
Post Concussion Cognitive Care: Return to Learn
Matthew Grady, MD, FAAP, CAQSM
This workshop is intended to examine the role of the school nurse and school physician when a child returns back to the
academic setting after suffering from a concussion; how to perform concussion focused exam to identify eye tracking
problems that would interfere with school learning; develop a school protocol that addresses short time cognitive deficits;
and understand the principles of concussion rehabilitation.
