Early childhood comprises a number of life stages, marked by developmental milestones, and is a time of significant physical,
cognitive, socio-emotional, and language development. Here, we define early childhood as the period from birth to age eight,
although we also recognize the importance of quality prenatal care in early childhood outcomes.

The New Jersey Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics is addressing these issues and has
the following programs and resources available to pediatricians to help support children through these early years of development.
