Vaccines play a critical role in strengthening children’s immune systems, helping them resist contagious diseases and stay healthy and active. For nearly a century, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has provided trusted guidance on the optimal timing of routine immunizations, supporting pediatricians, clinicians, and families in protecting children from preventable illnesses. These recommendations are developed by experts in infectious diseases, public health, and pediatrics, and are grounded in the latest scientific research and real-world evidence. The AAP continues to recommend routine immunization against 18 diseases, including RSV, hepatitis A and B, rotavirus, influenza, and meningococcal disease. Parents and caregivers with questions about vaccines are encouraged to speak with their child’s pediatrician or clinical care team to make informed decisions.
